David Patton has worked in the field of emergency services for 15 years. After pursuing a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario, David began working his way towards a full time career in the Fire Service. Working in Western Labrador provided an opportunity to do specialty training through provincial police forces, Canadian Armed Forces, and a variety of other emergency response agencies.

Shortly after moving to Calgary, Alberta in 1998 from Labrador, David began working as a firefighter with Calgary Fire Department in which he completed several specialties including Hazardous Materials Technician. From this, David became a Hazardous Materials Officer and received additional specialty training in Advanced CBRNE Terrorism Response, Police Explosives Technician Assistant, and Provincial Transportation of Dangerous Goods Inspector certifications. David now works as the Senior Firefighter for the Heavy Rescue Unit specializing in Advanced Technical Rescue, as well as for other private contractors in the technical rescue field.

David's presentation will look at the common forms of terrorism, the impact on people and industry, and what is being done to combat the threat and to deal with the potential aftermath.

David is a member of Mensa Calgary.
