Jim Szpajcher has worked in the Western Canadian upstream petroleum sector since the late 1960's. He started first with summer jobs in high school, on pipeline and other oilfield projects, and then worked full time on drilling rigs. In 1977, he shifted to a company which supplied products and service for fluids used on drilling operations. By 1982, Jim was a partner in an independent drilling fluids company, and has maintained a small business since then. In 1996, he started a new career as a contract drilling supervisor for oil and gas drilling operations, working primarily in the shallow gas and heavy oil fields of Western Canada.

In 1980, while based in Houston, Texas, Jim participated in a Past Life Regression workshop, which formed his practical introduction into altered states of consciousness. In 1997, he attended a one week Gateway program at the Monroe Institute. Over the past decade, he has organized and led workshops which allow participants to experience altered states of consciousness. The subject of sensory perception in consciousness, outside of our physical universe, is one which continues to interest him. After more than twenty years in the Calgary area, in 2002 Jim and his wife Annie moved to the rural St. Paul area, about two hours east of Edmonton.

Jim is a member of Mensa Calgary.
